This film draws its comedy from the difference between sexual fantasy and awkward reality. Don’t let it put you off, though, or you’ll miss out on a beautifully made film about loneliness and finding your place. It’s also very funny. This is very British humour that relies on contrasting people’s urge to be polite with what is essentially a rather absurd situation. The cast are all well-known comedy actors and apparently the short is being spun into a TV series.
Director Sam Baron told Short of the Week: “I wanted to make a comedy about feeling like you don’t belong – the feeling you get when you start a new job or a new school or walk into a party where you don’t know anyone. An orgy seemed like the ultimate version of that. The expectations are so high, and the potential for embarrassment is so huge – the tension would be unbearable, and that vulnerable agony is what I hoped to capture, in all its comic glory.”
